Earlier in the evening on February 26, 2015 a story took the internet by storm, a dress that seemingly had two different color combinations depending who looked at it. The story was posted to Tumblr earlier, asking for help, the original poster who goes by the handle swiked posted this earlier “guys please help me – is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the fuck out.” The call for help was posted along with a photo of a dress, within minutes to an hour, people were responding, arguing over which color scheme the dress actually was. Some were saying the colors are white and gold, while others argued it was blue and black. The post spread quickly on social media, eventually hitting news outlets across the globe. In the early hours of February 27, the debate is still going strong, as people fill up their feeds and news streams with articles, memes, and other musings relating to the mystery of the year, just what color is the dress in question?
Upon first and second inspection, it seems for many, myself included that the dress appears to be a white color with a tint of blue with brown/gold lace trim. Hours later, or even minutes, the dress color seems to change to a blue/ black combination. For the past day, it has puzzled people, and has captivated even scientists and intellectuals. Many people have posted their various theories on what makes the dress seem different to each person who views it, however, none have yet to be confirmed. It has also been revealed that the dress color scheme is actually the black and blue colors many have been claiming they see. It seems that the mystery will continue to be debated for the unforeseeable future. Now, in terms of comedy, that may work in favor for those who enjoy reading funny product reviews, and as with any viral sensation involving a product, people are bound to find the said original item, and take to the internet to write their own quirky and amusing reviews. This is the case with the mystery colored dress, as just in the past hour alone, reviews have been flooding the products Amazon.com page, and they’re actually quite hilarious. One review, from user Nora Reed states the dress had made her lose all of her friends and family, which is obviously a play on just how vigorous the so called “dressgate” debate is becoming. Take a moment to read the reviews for yourself here. You can also read the original posting about the dress on Tumblr.
