PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – While many may fantasize about traveling abroad to experience the cultures and customs of another country, there are people like Chloe Johnston who brings your fantasy travel destination straight to you city.
On February 4, 2015, Chloe Johnston and Amy Devan gave a taste of luxury couture from the romantic city of Paris at her “Atelier et Apéritif” Trunk Show. Guests were invited to peruse, mingle and shop at the brand new Naveda Couture Showroom (1815 JFK Blvd) from 6:30-8:30pm. People were able to meet the designer of Naveda Couture, Amy Devan, and learn about her amazing designs and collaboration with Chloe Johnston to bring the Parisian experience to the city of ‘Brother Love.’
Chloe Johnston is a Parisian fashion, beauty, travel and lifestyle guru. Though she hails from Philadelphia, Johnston is passionate about Paris and the city’s romantic affection for couture design. After conducting research on the Parisian boutique culture, Johnston launched Chloe Johnston Tours in 2011. New to Philadelphia and hot off the runways of New York Fashion Week, Naveda Couture is an emerging luxury women’s wear brand influenced by bohemian and couture lifestyles. Naveda’s fashion focuses on both ready-to-wear and custom pieces, ranging from casual chic to formal and elegant. The Naveda woman is a “global nomad” who values design that reflects her inner-dreamer and “haute” sense of personality. Philly girl, Amy Devan moved her showroom to Philly so she could give her hometown a taste of luxury and style.
Philadelphia Fashion Examiner had the opportunity to speak with the talented young ladies about their passion for fashion and their taste for the luxurious life and why Philly was their destination.
Tweety: What brought about the collaboration?
Chloe: Sue Rocco has an amazing radio show for women in business called ‘Women to Watch’. Both Amy and I are supporters of the Show. Sue introduced us and it was an instant connection. We both appreciate high fashion, travel, and international inspiration.
Amy: We met and instantly connected because of our love of fashion and business! We got to talking and hosting a joint event was the perfect idea! Chloe’s fabulous vintage pieces complement the Naveda aesthetic. We’re both believers in pushing women-owned businesses forward, and why not infuse fashion?
Tweety: What’s behind the name ‘Atelier et Aperitif’?
Chloe: Atelier is a French showroom and aperitif is a French custom of pre-dinner drinks and conviviality!
Amy: When we first sat down to talk about a possible event, the concept of Paris seemed natural. We wanted to host a “Sip n’ Shop” event, and that became the basis of the name, but in French of course! Because the event was to be held at the Naveda Couture Showroom, the word Atelier was fitting, and what’s a Parisian shopping event without some bubbly? The event was meant to be a fun way of introducing our pieces to the Philly community as well as to the local Press.
Tweety: What do you love about the Philly fashion culture?
Chloe: I appreciate that individuals are not afraid to express themselves, that’s what fashion is all about!
Amy: Philly fashion is best defined as street-chic. It’s edgy -meets-hipster, balanced with elevated sophistication. The city represents art, in every sense of the word, and fashion is an expression of the community’s bold emotion and vibrancy.
Tweety: What would you like to see change on the Philly fashion scene?
Chloe: Some more diversity and international influence.
Amy: I’d love to see Philly fashion take bigger risks when it comes to style. When you think of Paris or even New York or LA, there is an element of surprise, wonder, whimsy and personalized edge to one’s style. Philly fashion can be taken to the next level if we step outside the box and dress the way we feel on a given day. After all, fashion should be expressive and emotional without having to actually speak.
Tweety: There are many noted places for fashion. Why did you choose Paris?
Chloe: Paris has become a second home to me. From my first trip when I was 12, I was fascinated by the culture, the food, the fashion. Paris is truly a beautiful city inside and out. I am still intrigued by the way Parisian woman can dress so effortlessly chic, it’s an art! It is still the fashion capital of the world and for good reason, everywhere you go you can find inspiration, whether it’s the art galleries, the boutique windows, the hidden cobblestone streets, the history, it’s amazing!
Tweety: What do you love about shopping in Paris?
Getting lost in Paris because that is the best way to stumble upon the most amazing places. The stories behind the pieces are what pull me in. The designers and boutique owners are so passionate about what they do; I love that passion and I think it shows!
Tweety: Why was Philly your destination for this event?
Amy: Both Chloe and I are from the area, so it made sense to have it here. Secondly, with the Naveda Couture Showroom in the heart of Center City, the location was central to our customer base. It provided for an intimate setting with ample space for customers to enjoy, mingle, and shop.
Tweety: What is the story behind Naveda Couture?
Amy: Naveda Couture & Design, LLC is a Philadelphia based, emerging luxury women’s wear brand, influenced by a bohemian-meets-couture lifestyle. Our focus is on both ready-to-wear and custom couture that range from casual-chic to formal-elegance, all with the Naveda woman’s eclectic, yet glamorous sensibility in mind. The mission is to combine exotic craftsmanship and embellishments with timeless silhouettes that are versatile, allowing for both classic and fresh elements.
Tweety: What kind of woman wears Naveda Couture?
The Naveda woman has a deep appreciation for travel and the arts. She is creative, uninhibited, curious, a global nomad and enjoys exploration that takes her mind, body and soul on an escape. Balanced with her free-spirited inner vibe, is her sophisticated, composed character that yearns for some element of luxe and glamour. She values design that reflects her inner-dreamer, yet “haute” sense of style and personality.
Tweety: What can we expect from you in the future?
Amy: I recently moved to Philadelphia about a month and a half ago, all to get reconnected with this city that was home for me years ago. Currently, Naveda is sold online and in several retailers across the country. The next step is to grow our distribution in Philly for both our ready-to-wear and bespoke/custom bridal segments.
Chloe: Just watch!
