Give the gift of education to a child living in an area affected by war this holiday season. The Body Shop has chosen to partner with War Child this year, so that every specially selected pre-made gift set purchased equals one class for a child in a war-torn area. With over 110 new gifts this season, you are bound to find something that pleases almost everyone on your gifting list. The Body Shop’s goal is to donate six million classes, and every gift set (big or small) brings them one closer to that goal (also check out the class counter on The Body Shop’s website to see how many lessons have been raised so far). Recently The Body Shop invited some lucky individuals to meet with Dr. Samantha Nutt (Founder and Executive Director of War Child), as well as, check out the fun new holiday products and gift sets.
Dr. Nutt explained to us how children living in war affected areas can easily fall behind on their education. She gave the example of child soldiers who often did not want to re-enter the education system because the children on the same level as them were much younger. But without an education, these children have no hope of escaping this lifestyle. This is where War Child comes in and gives these children lessons so that they can catch up and see the possibilities that getting an education can open up for them. Another program that Dr. Nutt mentioned that particularly interested me was the push to educate girls living in areas with such high instances of violence and assault against women/girls that it is deemed unsafe for them to leave the home. War Child has instituted a program to broadcast lessons to these girls over the radio. It is heartening to hear that girls trapped in such a difficult situation will not need to choose between safety and an education.
Now that the giving part of The Body Shop’s initiative has been expanded upon, it is time to talk about the gifting part. The Body Shop has three holiday scents, Vanilla Brulee, Glazed Apple and Frosted Cranberry (a personal favorite), and numerous gift sets featuring the three scents. Three favorites are the Peace (apple), Love (cranberry) and Joy (vanilla) sets. Cleverly packaged to look like books, they give a sampling of some of The Body Shop’s favorite products in the holiday scents. Another worth mentioning is the Glazed Apple gift set packaged inside of a silver apple. After the gift has been opened and used, the packaging is also great for storing things. I am currently using mine to hold all the business cards I have collected but have not had time to file away yet. For those of you looking for something for the men on your list, consider the Modern Gent’s Shaving Kit. It contains a shaving cream, aftershave balm and shaving brush; all packaged in an appropriately manly tin. What I mentioned above is just a small selection of the great gift sets The Body Shop has in stock. Even better is that they are offering a great Black Friday deal. From 11/26-11/30, a limited edition tote and the products inside ($125) will be available for $30 both in stores and online. Also check out www.thebodyshop-usa.com for their Cyber Monday deals.
