MC-LEF, the Marine Corps – Law Enforcement Foundation, and its supporters, strongly believes that the United States’ most precious resource is our young people. Ever since their inception in 1995, they have made it their goal to provide scholarships to the children of fallen United States Marines and U.S. Federal Law Enforcement Officers, otherwise referred to at FLEO. To date, MC-LEF has provided over $63 million in scholarships to over 3,500 children!
The way that this charitable giving is conducted is that this great 501 (c)(3) organization opens a Merrill Lynch Edge bank account for the recipient which contains $30,000. Once the recipient reaches the age of 18, they are free to use the money as they please although MC-LEF strongly encourages them to advance their education or technical training. They believe that through their encouragement, the young people will be setting up their future as their lost loved one would have envisioned.
In the past, MC-LEF has aided the children of other military personnel who perished in terrorist attacks, and supported the victims of extraordinary events that have impacted America.
In addition to helping enrich the lives of the children of fallen Marines and FLEO employees, MC-LEF also grants support to catastrophically wounded Marines in the form of medical equipment and/or humanitarian aid, as well as, financial support for mentally or physically disabled children of active duty United States Marines for medical needs not met by government insurance.
In order to provide the most benefits, MC-LEF has combined forces with the Injured Semper Fi Fund, Segs4Vets and the Gary Sinise Foundation. Each of these relationships helps further their goals.
The foundation is sustained by a network of people who rightfully believe that the brave men and women who protect our great country and our local communities deserve to have their families protected like they are willing to protect the greater good. Thankfully this 501 (c)(3) organization has been recognized for its excellence and efficiency by the Independent Charities of America. They recognize the giving potential and the fact that 98.4% of all the donations made to MC-LEF go directly to fund their mission.
Even though they are immensely proud of their work to date, MC-LEF knows that there is still a great deal of work to be done in order to support the families of America’s Marines and FLEO. As this foundation continues to grow, they hope to expand their mission to include granting scholarships to the children of local and state police who have lost their lives while on duty.
More information will be forthcoming on MC-LEF. Stay tuned!
