Who is the master over your life? What controls your life? Whether Christ is master of your life or the world we are all subject to something. Most people now days believe they do not have a master over there life as they themselves determine their life, but this is self ruling over their life. Regardless of what one says everyone is subject to something or someone and whatever it is will ultimately determine your actions as well as your destination.
“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16). No matter who you are, we are all subject to bondage to something or someone. We can either choose life through Christ or death through the world. We can either be bondservants of Christ or slaves of the world. We all have a master and it’s up to us to choose who that master is going to be. Some people say that they are of Christ, but still try to live to please people because their job requires them to do so or they feel as though they must do so for whatever reason that they may come up with. We can only have one master, not two and therefore it is up to us to choose which master will have full control.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24). Jesus tells us here that we cannot serve both Him and the world, but we must choose only one. Some people believe that you can serve both, but what ultimately ends up happening is that the world usually takes over the individual and in doing so the individual begins to forsake God’s law and ways and instead follows after whatever the world says is right and true. We must choose Christ over everything and put Him into every aspect of our lives and if there is any area that causes us to stumble and to cause us to compromise our faith, then we must forsake this area of our life.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’” (Romans 8:14,15). We have been set free from the bondage of the world through Christ as we walk in the Spirit in all manners that is pleasing to the Lord. Those that are not in Christ are in bondage to the world and Satan regardless of what they may think. We are to be bondservants of Christ while walking in His statues and commandments. We should not compromise our faith to please any as we should seek only to please One, that is Jesus Christ and the Father.
Whether Christ is your master or the world, you are in bondage to something or someone. Bondage can be anything from self to drugs to people which all ultimately represent bondage to the world and to Satan. You can’t serve both God and the world, but you must choose which one will be your ultimate master and this choice ultimately affects your actions as well as your destination. If you are in Christ then you are set free from the bondage of the world and instead you are a bondservant of Christ in which you should seek to please and glorify Him in all things. “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.” (2 Peter 2:19).
