Who will be announced as the next “The Essentials” Co-Host on Turner Classic Movies in the next month? Will it be announced on the next episode of “The Essentials” Saturday, January 3? From 2012 to 2014, actress/producer Drew Barrymore has discussed the merits of movies like “Auntie Mame,” Jean Cocteau’s masterpiece “La Belle et la Bete,” and the William Powell/Myrna Loy vehicle “The Thin Man” that initiated a six-film series of popular favorites, with TCM Host Robert Osborne.
Previous hosts of “The Essentials” have included Rob Reiner, film historian Molly Haskell, directors Sydney Pollack and Peter Bogdanovich, actresses Carrie Fisher and Rose McGowan, and actor Alec Baldwin. Baldwin also interviewed original TCM Host Robert Osborne for a special edition of TCM’s Private Screenings. The interview with Osborne, popular with TCM viewers who wanted to learn more about the iconic TCM Host from Washington state, revealed details about how Osborne was mentored by comedienne Lucille Ball and actress Jane Darwell, and how he is a good friend of classic film actress Olivia de Havilland, as well as many other show business luminaries.
When Osborne introduced “Gone With The Wind” at the historic Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas, on Friday, September 6, he revealed during his discussion of the film that the next co-host of TCM’s “The Essentials”would be an Oscar-winner, and would join him for the next season to be filmed in New York City.
