On Thursday, as previously reported, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing for SB 116. A bill being labeled as ‘Constitutional Carry’ in New Hampshire. There was overwhelming support for the bill throughout the testimony and only 4 people testified against it. These people deserve their own special recognition for their fringe beliefs and tall tales.
Of the four people who testified against SB 116, three were being paid to be there and one is unknown. The unknown was a woman who claimed that people in society need to give up their individual rights for the greater good of society. Clearly this woman is a collectivist. Apparently to her, the 2nd Amendment, which indeed protects an individual’s fundamental right to self-defense, doesn’t seem to mean much. It’s always a bit of surprise when women who push ‘Equal Rights’ actual push for women to be less equal.
An officer from the New Hampshire State Police division which actually processes pistol licenses for out-of-state residents also testified against SB 116. Aside from wanting people to ‘open carry’ because it made him feel better, he used the excuse that the state would lose $900,000 in revenue if this bill was made law because licenses would no longer be needed. Unfortunately the numbers don’t back that statement up.
Although the claims in the actual bill state that it would cost the state to lose that much revenue, in reality, those numbers cannot be found anywhere in any budgets provided by the state. The New Hampshire State Budgets show that the actual revenue from funds is less than $300,000 per year. It does not split out the funds so it’s unclear how much are actually from out-of-state licensing. It could be far lower. It’s not clear if the State Police provided that number or someone in finance but the number seems to be completely made up. Investigation on this number will continue.
Then there’s Zandra Rice Hawkins, the Director of Granite State Progress. This is an organization that is funded by out-of-state interests to push far left wing ideology onto Granite Staters and lie on a regular basis as well. They’ve been caught in numerous lies but during Hawkins’ incoherent testimony she made some real whoppers. She believes that the gun laws in New Hampshire are already too weak. She thinks that Granite Staters attending political events, sporting events and bars are violent Neanderthals who cannot control themselves when they get emotional.
There was also Tuftonboro Chief of Police, Andrew Shagoury, whose testimony was actually quite disturbing. He was representing the National Assocition of Chiefs of Police, an organization that is for gun control and certain gun bans as well. He seems to believe that anyone who is concealed carrying is dangerous. Not only did he clearly show that he has zero respect for the Constitution or the Oath of Office he took but he believes he has the power to make law. He doesn’t want the ‘suitable’ phrase removed from the pistol license (which he calls a ‘permit’ on his town’s website) because he wants to play judge and jury with the residents of his town even when they pass a federal background check.
Neither officer seemed to understand federal law. Both made the claim that dangerous people would be able to suddenly concealed carry which is not true. SB 116 clearly only applies to people who are legally able to purchase a firearm, which means having to pass the laws around the federal background check as well as any New Hampshire-specific laws. Shagoury actually made the insane claim that 12 ,13 and 15 year olds would be suddenly concealed carrying. If they did, they’d be criminals breaking the law. According to federal law a person has to be 21 years old to purchase a handgun.
Last but not least the lunatics of Moms Demand Action made a statement to the press. There were only a few of them at the hearing, it’s obvious they have little support in New Hampshire even though they are being paid from Bloomberg to push gun control. To further prove their insanity along with their ignorance and hatred one of them made the following claim on the news to Adam Sexton of WMUR:
“It’s an unfair advantage that they have,” said an anonymous member of Moms Demand Action. “People really don’t like to come and stand in front of a ‘firing squad’ — a group of people with guns.”
Hopefully these women are getting paid well for making complete fools of themselves on television. They were the only people out-of-control during the hearing. During a proponent’s testimony, one of them actually yelled out. The chair of the Judiciary Committee had to remind people to be respectful. Frankly these women appear to need serious mental help. If there was ever a case for now allowing someone to own a firearm, the Moms Demand women of New Hampshire make that case.
As you can see, out of the over 4.5 hours of testimony, the few who actually testified against SB 116 were essentially ‘full of it’. They not only told ‘tall tales’ but they showed how much disdain they seem to have for the law-abiding citizens of New Hampshire. The fundamental right to self-defense seems to be null and void for these people. They seem to understand that criminals already concealed carry freely but insist upon infringing upon the rights of law-abiding citizen who want to protect themselves from the criminals. Gun control extremists are easily debunked. As more and more of their ‘tall tales’ are outed, the support for SB 116 will increase. These people indeed are the fringe in New Hampshire.
