In “The X Factor” U.K. episode that ITV televised on Dec. 13, 2014, Andrea Faustini was eliminated based on getting the lowest number of viewer votes, thereby leaving Ben Haenow and Fleur East as the final two contestants. Even though Faustini was considered the frontrunner for weeks, his popularity stumbled after he hit some bad notes in a mid-November performance, and he wasn’t able to recover from it, since he was in the bottom two of getting votes in subsequent weeks.

The “X Factor” U.K. judges in 2014 are Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh. Now that Faustini (who was mentored by Mel B) is out of the competition, Cowell is the only judge/mentor with the show’s final two contestants of the year. Haenow and East (from the Over 25s category) are the only contestants remaining in the competition who have not been in the bottom two, and they both happen to be mentored by Cowell, who is an executive producer of “The X Factor” U.K.
Cowell returned to the show’s judging panel in 2014 after a four-year absence, and he obviously wants to seal his comeback by mentoring a contestant who wins on the show. People can theorize over whether or not this means the contest is “fixed.” The winner of “The X Factor” U.K. in 2014 will be announced on Dec. 14. The announced performers in the season finale are One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Demi Lovato, Olly Murs, Meghan Trainor and Sam Smith.
In the episode that aired on Dec. 13, 2014, the final three “X Factor” U.K. contestants each teamed up with a star singer for a duet of one of the star singer’s hits. East and Labrinth performed Labrinth’s “Beneath Your Beautiful.” Haenow and Ed Sheeran did Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” Faustini and Ella Henderson sang Henderson’s “Ghost.”
During the show, Faustini, East and Haenow also teamed up with Take That to sing Take That’s “Rule the World.”
Mel B was unable to be at the show since she has been hospitalized due to an undisclosed illness. Former “X Factor” U.K. judge Tulisa Contostavlos substituted for her.
