Hello New York Doll Collectors,
If you are in the process of purchasing a doll house, and you are at a stand still with the many choices of doll houses that are out there, I have some tips I can offer you.
1) Would You Live In It? When you look at the various doll houses, ask yourself, “would I live in what would likely be my choice of a doll house?” Yes, this question is a “must ask.” It is a fun, but serious question. Because even though searching and finally purchasing a doll house can be a joyous experience, it’s still quite an investment. An investment of your time, creativity, and imagination.
2) How Many Rooms? Not sure? You can consider this, when you’re looking to have occupants for the house. How many would there be? Would you have a family of four or an extended family? Think about the plans you have for the rooms. Would there be a study room/office, kitchen, living room? And is there a certain amount of bedrooms for the occupants, that you want?
3) Ready Made or Kits. Would you like a doll house that is already made, so that you can spend time designing it? It’s a great way to just focus on the interior designings, such as furnishings, wallpaper, even adding electricity. Or, would you prefer to build your doll house from the foundation up, with your own hands? If yes, kits are the best way to go. There are kits that are simplified enough for those of us, who are first time doll house builders. There are also doll houses, that are far more elaborate, for the more ambitious.
4) Cost. I left this one for last, because when you have a set price for a doll house, and you only view those types, then you are missing out on inspiration. What do I mean by that? Look at doll houses that are very expensive or what is beyond the price you are choosing and make a comparison. How does it compare? Are their more rooms or less? Are there designs that you like on a particular doll house, that you would like on the one you chose? Keep in mind that when you purchase a doll house, you can be sure, that you can add “extensions” to grow the size of your doll house. There are many tools and supplies for you to create the doll house you love.
Doll houses and doll house kits can range from $99, up to the thousands. So there are many to view and enjoy exploring. Happy doll house shopping.
