1. Alter Your Attitude
Have you ever noticed that some people will see the same situation very differently? A traffic jam, for example, might be a blessing to one driver because it gives them more time to practice the business presentation they will give that day while another driver will be fuming because they are delayed in getting where they were going.
Things are the way they are. It is our reaction, how we see a situation that makes the difference. Start seeing your situations as “it’s all good,” and you will be on your way to a happier new year.
“The most powerful thing you can do to change the world, is to change your own beliefs about the nature of life, people, reality, to something more positive.”
– Shakti Gawain
“Most people are searching for happiness. They’re looking for it. They’re trying to find it in someone or something outside of themselves. That’s a fundamental mistake. Happiness is something that you are, and it comes from the way you think.”
– Wayne Dyer
“Ultimately . . . it’s not the stories that determine our choices, but the stories that we continue to choose.”
– Sylvia Boorstein
2. Believe in Miracles
The dictionary defines a miracle as “a highly improbable or extraordinary event.” If you stop for a moment and think of life itself, isn’t that a miracle? And everyday I get to hug my daughter, or find a penny on the street, or get a smile from a stranger, that is a miracle too.
Start each day with a miracle mindset and it will set the tone for the rest of your day and your life.
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
– Albert Einstein
“Everything is miraculous. It is miraculous that one does not melt in one’s bath.”
– Pablo Picasso
“To be alive, to be able to see, to walk, . . . it’s all a miracle. I have adapted the technique of living life from miracle to miracle.”
– Arthur Rubinstein
3. Cultivate Kindness & Compassion
It doesn’t take a lot to be kind to a fellow human being. What does it take, for example, to say “Good Morning” to the bus driver, or hold the door for someone behind you, or ask how the supermarket checkout person is doing that day?
The more you give, the more you get back. So start giving away some kindness every day and watch how your life becomes more joyous.
“You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world’s happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime.”
– Dale Carnegie
“That old law about “an eye for and eye” leaves everybody blind.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”
– Albert Schweitzer
