Weather can be hit or miss come December in Cincinnati, but that doesn’t mean all the fun activities are inside. There are plenty of activities for children and adults alike to experience the holiday season in Cincinnati. Among the highlights of seasonal activities are the following six:
An old holiday tradition, that has recently been revived is Christmas Saengerfest. This musical holiday festival takes places at various venues around Cincinnati the weekend of December 5-6. One of the performance highlights is the Southern Gateway Chorus, performing both days of the event at St. Francis Seraph Church. Other activities include a holiday market, church tours, and Christian Moerlein’s Brewery.
Put some sparkle in your life with the PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Every season the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical is decked out in millions of lights and filled with fun, holiday-themed activities. From puppet shows to Santa and Mrs. Claus, there is something for kids of all ages at this annual holiday spectacle. The PNC Festival of Lights opens at 5:00 PM each day and runs from November 22 – January 3.
Come in from the cold and head to the Cincinnati Museum Center to check out Holiday Junction featuring the Duke Energy Holiday Trains. This festival holiday train display has been delighting Cincinnatians of all ages since 1946. If you are a local Duke Energy customer, you can receive complimentary tickets to the train display (good through December 24). If you are a member of the Cincinnati Museum Center, admission to the exhibit is included with your membership. If you don’t fall into either of those categories, admission to the holiday exhibit is included in Museum Center admission. This special exhibit is on display through January 4.
For many years, one of the delights of childhood for thousands of little girls in Cincinnati has been a trip to see the Cincinnati Ballet perform “The Nutcracker.” What little girl hasn’t dreamed of being Clara dancing across the stage with her Nutcracker? Create some magic for that special girl in your life no matter her age, by attending this annual holiday tradition, which runs from December 19-27.
Another annual tradition is the Krohn Conservatory Holiday Show. The 2014 holiday show is Magic and Misletoe, which includes an interactive train display and thousands of colorful holiday and tropical flowers. Besides the train and flower displays, they are many other special activities going on, including the annual lie nativity and visits from Santa. Krohn Conservatory’s festive holiday display runs through January 4.
Finally, no holiday season would be complete without a visit to see Scuba Santa’s Water Wonderland at the Newport Aquarium. Visit the aquarium to see Scuba Santa’s daily dive shows where he reads an underwater version of ‘Twas the Night before Christmas from his Magic Story Book. Besides the daily dive shows, that are many other activities going on with scuba Santa from meet and greats to a holiday overnight. You can see Scuba Santa through January 1.
