Arrested in September, Melissa Kay Anderson, 35, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, pleaded no contest in November to five counts of child sexual abuse on her 10-year-old blood relative after police were informed by the boy and his father that Anderson – along with her boyfriend – forced the child to have sex with her and made the child watch as she had sex with her boyfriend in front of him. Anderson and her boyfriend used sex toys on one another in front of the boy, forced the child to use sex toys on her and also showed pornography to the boy. On Thursday at her sentencing, a judge sentenced Anderson to five consecutive life sentences for her sexual abuse of her young relative, according to a Jan. 24 report from Tulsa World.
The sexual abuse of the 10 year old first came to light in September when the boy confided to his father about the abuse. The dad immediately contacted the police.
Three of the counts pertain to sex acts that Anderson performed on the boy and made him perform on her. The other two counts accuse her of having sex with Michael Burris, her boyfriend and co-defendant, in front of the victim and showing the victim pornography.
Kevin Gray, the Tulsa Assistant District Attorney, was adamant that Anderson deserved life behind bars, saying that the sexual abuse on her young relative was the worst he’d ever seen. “I don’t believe Ms. Anderson should breathe fresh air again,” Gray said. The judge imposing the sentence on Anderson said that based on “the heinous nature” of her crimes against the child, that the five concurrent life sentences were warranted.
Burris, Anderson’s boyfriend, was also charged with one count of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12 and one count of permitting child sexual abuse. Burris has pleaded not guilty to those charges. He has a jury trial scheduled to begin in May. Burris is being held in Tulsa Jail on a $1 million bond, according to News on 6.
The child victim is being credited with providing police detailed specifics regarding his abuse at the hands of Anderson and Burris. The child said that the sexual abuse began around his tenth birthday and took place at different times and in different locations.
During the course of his interviews, the boy was able to describe the kinds of sexual abuse he endured as well as being able to describe “the sex toys the couple used on each other and forced him to use on Anderson.” Police said that the 10 year old “is a total hero to speak out when he did and to tell his story, and that’s to be commended.”
