The Rosarito Beach Hotel is proud to announce that on Saturday evening, April 25th, it will be hosting an event headlining the Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea. The Divas are celebrating their 15th Anniversary this year. They are the most honored group in their genre, regardless of gender, having been nominated for eight Grammy Awards in total. In 2009, they became the first all-female mariachi band to ever be nominated for a Grammy AND the first to win one. Their ten best-selling CDs are an enduring testament that clearly demonstrates their world-wide popularity.
Joining them for a memorable evening of song & dance are the 13 year old multi-talented vocalist (opera, mariachi, pop) / instrumentalist (violin and trumpet), Angel Ng PLUS Baja’s most decorated young dancers, Ballet Folklorico Yoneme, two-time winners of The Annual Rosarito Beach International Dance Competition, under the Musical Direction of Professor Fenando Lopez.

Q. How about some additional details on the talent that will be performing? A: The Mariachi Divas have been the Official Mariachi of Disneyland since 2003. They have performed at a diverse collection of internationally acclaimed events/venues including The Alma Awards, Premio la Gente, The House of Blues, the Inaugurations of Los Angeles’ Mayor & California’s Governor, as well as at command performances for Hillary Clinton, the former President of Mexico Vicente Fox, and the President of South Korea. They have also performed with, amongst others, Graciela Beltran, Peabo Bryson, Pedro Fernandez, Pablo Montero, Paquito de Rivera, Jenni Rivera, Paulina Rubio, Joan Sebastian, Marco Antonio Solis, Son by Four, and Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. The Divas have also appeared on the following television shows: BBQ with Bobby Flay, Bienvenido a Casa, Cristina, Control, Primer Impacto, Sabado Gigante, and 12 Corazones.
Angel Ng was just eleven when she became the youngest winner in the Voice category competition held annually by the prestigious Los Angeles’ Colburn School of Performing Arts Music Conservatory. There were 640 pre-qualified entrants ranging in age from ten through eighteen. Her award was a full scholarship at the school. In that same year, she was awarded a grant from the Los Angeles Secondary Music Teachers Association (their version of a Grammy) for her achievements as a Classical Violinist. Since then she has represented the United States in the gathering of young musical prodigies of 28 countries known as the Meeting of The Nations, performed throughout California and Nevada with some of the finest mariachi in the world (including Mariachi Vargas), and is getting ready for a tour of Colombia with Gabriel Arreaga.
Ballet Folklorico.Yoneme is the premier dance group trained by maestro Fernando Lopez at the State of Baja’s top performing arts academy, Prepa Federal Lazaro Cardenas of Tijuana. Over the last two decades his students have won several of the country’s major dance Competencias (Competitions) including two victories at the Annual Rosarito Beach International Mariachi & Folklorico Festival as well as headlining at the Annual International Dance Extravaganza held at Tijuana’s legendary CECUT (Cultural Center). Their versatility is unparalleled as any of the readers of this piece who saw them perform (as Danza Irlandesa) the step dancing of Ireland at the International Triple Treat benefit event on February 28th can attest. Their terpsichorean talents will be directed southward on April 25th towards a virtuoso performance of the music of mariachi’s birthplace, the State of Jalisco.
Q: Can you address the actual purpose for the April 25th event? A: It is called The Grammy Jammin’ II Benefit Concert because ALL…100%…of the proceeds from the performance, headlined by the two-time Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas and friends, benefits the causa noble’s two projects: the Rosarito Shores Club, within walking distance of the concert venue, is operational and offers a daily full schedule of activities for up to 100 at risk local children AND the under-construction Colonia Lucio Blanco facility. The second location, which will ultimately service up to 600 members, is slated to open its 4000 square foot Multi-Purpose facility and adjacent sports fields (soccer and basketball) later this year.
Q. If I have any other questions, who can I contact? A. You may contact either the Club’s President, Rosy Torres at: firstname.lastname@example.org or (661) 850-1773 or the Club’s Vice President, Gil Sperry at: email@example.com or (661) 614-0335
If you’d like to visit either OR both facilities and see how the funds from all Club benefit events are being used, please let Rosy or Gil know. Everyone is very proud of what’s being accomplished to help the next generation of Rosarito Beach’s leaders be all that they can be!
We look forward to seeing you on April 25th when you can enjoy world-class entertainment at a world class venue (The Rosarito Beach Hotel is celebrating its 90th Anniversary this year) while helping build a world-class facility for our area’s at-risk children.
