After three periods out on the ice, any hockey player can tell you about the toll a long season of games and practices can take on their feet. For National Hockey League (NHL) players, high tech relief is on its way from one of footwear’s most comfortable brands. UGG Australia and the NHL recently announced that UGG will introduce new off-ice comfort to NHL players by way of a new footwear collection designed for men.
UGG will be introducing its new Treadlite technology, which offers increased cushioning, traction, and flexibility to the brand’s footwear collection that’s already well-known for comfort. The partnership started in connection with the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series, the outdoor game played between the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium this past weekend.
In the first partnership between the two globally recognized brands, UGG hosted an onsite VIP lounge for the players after practices on February 20, where players were introduced to UGG’s Treadlite footwear collection. The debut collection features shoes with a lightweight and durable outsole that uses proprietary technology to offer a more cushioned, flexible shoe, without sacrificing traction.
Notable players such as the Kings’ Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty, Marian Gaborik and Anze Kopitar took a moment to pick up a new pair. The Sharks’ Right Wing Brent Burns immediately gravitated towards the “Freamon” chukka style in bright red, while Tyler Kennedy, Melker Karlsson, Anti Niemi, and Joe Thornton all went with a more low profile black suede “Freamon” or grey canvas “Conley” slip-on to complement their off-ice style.
Already known around the world for its comfortable boots and slippers, the Treadlite collection is helping UGG redefine the “comfort casuals” category with superior, lightweight technology. Footwear offering the new Treadlite technology will be available in men’s footwear at UGG Australia stores nationwide and online.
“UGG is the only casual footwear brand harnessing Treadlite innovation, which underscores our commitment to innovation and provides our consumers with the highest quality experience possible,” said Connie Rishwain, President, UGG Australia. “We couldn’t be more pleased by our partnership with the NHL. This further solidifies our continued support of athletes, and shines a much-deserved spotlight on our robust men’s collection.”
“At the NHL, we are always looking to work with authentic brands that have a connection with sports and our fans,” said David Lehanski, NHL senior vice president of integrated sales. “We are excited to partner with UGG for this year’s Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.”
At the Stadium Series game, the Los Angeles Kings defeated the San Jose Sharks by a score of 2-1, thanks to a third period goal by the Kings’ Marian Gaborik.
