Casting for Recovery plans fund raising events
The Florida fly fishing community has for years been supporting a very worthwhile cause. In fact, there is a fun slate of events coming up in the next few weeks to support Casting for Recovery(CfR). CfR Florida is a unique organization that uses fly fishing as a way to contribute to the rehabilitation of breast cancer patients through the joys of fly fishing. Their purpose is to combine breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing.
Fly Fish 5K – February 8, 2015
The first event offers a unique opportunity for runners to access what is normally restricted property on Florida’s Space Coast. Participants in the Run or Walk event will find themselves competing along forested perimeter roads, past historic testing facilities, storage bunkers and test flight ranges associated with the American space program.
For an entry fee of $25, or $30 on race day, participants will be eligible for lots of giveaways and raffles, including a chance to win a tour of one of the finest private collections of historical military weapons, vehicles and artifacts around. They will also have the chance to win a $500 Home Depot Gift Card. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 200 entries.
Something Fishy Costume -The participant wearing the best Fish/Fishing costume will be selected and honored for their creativity.
Something to Learn – Expert fly fishers will be on hand to demonstrate fly casting and fly tying.

Fish Tales & Cocktails Reception – March 22
The second event benefiting CfR Florida will by held in Winter Park at the Winter Park Country Club (761 Old England Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789). The event will center around fun and relaxation. It will include a good bit of story telling among anglers, raffles, and various auction items.
Extraordinary Raffle -Raffle tickets for a for a Gheenoe custom boat will be available at the reception for $1 each. The Gheenoe is a Model 15’4 NMZ with raised Front Deck (1 Hatch), Raised Rear Deck (no hatch) and on a Trailer with 12″ tires. Total Retail Value of this package is $ 2345.00.

Casting for Recovery Florida Retreat -March 28-30
The Florida retreat offers a fly-fishing retreat for selected Florida women in all stages of breast cancer who apply for the program.
Participants are instructed on how to engage in the sport of fly fishing by volunteer instructors. The retreat also provides the opportunity to share stories in a safe and supportive environment while receiving psychosocial and medical expertise surrounding their breast cancer treatments.
The upcoming retreat is a two-and-a-half day program beginning on March 28 and ending on March 30, 2015.
Lodging, meals, equipment, and events are at no cost to the selected participants.
Those interested in participating in the program can find out how to apply for the program at www.CastingforRecovery.org. Applications for 2015 event must be made by February 15th.
“This is our 6th year in Florida,” explained CfR Florida spokesman, Lily Renzetti. “Many local anglers like Jon Cave, Frank Catino, Gary Herderson, Pat Murphy, Jim Ross and others have been very involved with CfR since it came to Florida in 2010.”
“This program changes lives,” added Renzetti. “Not just for the participants but for those that volunteer as well.”
