War Drum is gearing up for their March 20 digital release of their new album “Risk Taker.” They have released a song from the new album titled “Bandit’s Eyes” you can listen to it or download it for $1.00 at the War Drum website.
As reported previously “Risk Taker” will feature Robby Krieger on three tracks, although “Bandit‘s Eyes” isn’t one of the tracks Krieger plays on (at least it doesn’t sound like it is). War Drum met Krieger through producer Harper Hug (who was also the connection between Krieger and John Garcia). On the three tracks Krieger will add his sitar style guitar sound he used to great effect in “The End” (which you can hear in War Drum‘s video teasing Krieger‘s appearance on their album, see related articles below). “ He added a layer of depth to the tracks that was missing” said Ehren Groban of War Drum. Krieger’s tracks were recorded with War Drum at his Horse Latitudes studio.
Desert Rock is a genre of music coming out of the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area, all the members of War Drum are from and grew up in the Palm Springs area and still reside there. Desert Rock got its start when bands with no other places to play headed out to desert arroyos to play. dragging along not only their guitars and amps but generators to power them. Desert Rock (also called stoner rock) doesn’t have one homogenous sound, John Garcia plays has more of a heavy metal influenced sound, while War Drum has a more Hendrix psychedelic influence, with a heavy blues sound that does some times get compared to a 60’s revival sound in reviews.
War Drum has been invited to play at Desertfest in Camden, England April 24-26 and then will embark on a European tour through Germany and into Spain. Because they aren’t a huge group with a record company backing they have a indiegogo campaign to help finance the tour and to press vinyl copies of “Risk Taker”. If you can kick in a few dollars, and help a struggling band out. There is something in it for besides the satisfaction of helping, premiums are available you can get a copy of their previous albums, artwork from the new album, a massage from Jack Kohler of War Drum who is a certified masseuse, take a look see what you like! To keep abreast of War Drum’s European tour you can find more details on their Facebook page.
“Risk Taker” is being released digitally March 20, you can download “Bandit’s Eyes” from the album today, and the vinyl release to follow later. The band also has plans on releasing a video a sort of “day in the life” of recording with Robby Krieger but that is still in the process of being edited. Also slated to be on “Risk Taker” is Jesika Von Rabbit, a performer who is also from the Joshua Tree area.
