The fun time for Ohio high school football is about to begin.
The regular season is now officially over, and the post season is about to begin. In Division I, or the “Big Boy League” the match-ups in Regions 1 and 2 are now just about set. After St. Edward’s 41-10 win over St. Ignatius tonight, there have been some major changes in seedings and match-ups for the first round. Below is what the first round games should be, starting next Saturday, November 8th:
These statuses are UNOFFICIAL. The final pairings will be announced tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Division I, Region 1 (Games to be played November 8th, at the higher seed home field)
#16 Massillon Perry at #1 Hudson
#15 Brunswick at #2 St. Edward
#14 Solon at #3 Westerville Central
#13 Lorain at #4 Mentor
#12 Canton GlenOak/Wadsworth at #5 Berea-Midpark
#11 Canton GlenOak/Wadsworth at #6 Austintown Fitch
#10 Toledo Whitmer at #7 Olentangy Liberty
#9 Elyria at #8 St. Ignatius
Canton GlenOak and Wadsworth are tied?…. Yes, since they finished with the same amount of points, a tie breaker will be done by blind draw by the OHSAA because both teams have the same amount of victories, and didn’t play each other head-to-head
How did Solon get a seed ahead of Brunswick?…. Brunswick had more wins, and defeated Solon 34-0 last night. Here is how Solon ranked ahead of Brunswick: Despite having one fewer wins, the Comets received a ton of secondary points by the teams they defeated. Kenston went 8-2, Willoughby South went 7-3 against a Division I schedule
St. Edward jumped all the way to a #2 seed?…. Yes, they picked up points by beating St. Ignatius, and all other teams that they beat also won this weekend, giving the Eagles a load of secondary points
Division I Region 2 (Games to be played November 8th, at the higher seed home field)
#16 Lakota West at #1 Centerville
#15 Central Crossing at #2 Cincinnati St. Xavier
#14 Gahanna-Lincoln at #3 Pickerington Central
#13 Hiliard Davidson at #4 Dublin Coffman
#12 Cincinnati Elder at # 5 Huber Heights Wayne
#11 Miamisburg at #6 Cincinnati Moeller
#10 Cincinnati Colerain at #7 Hilliard Darby
#9 Lakota East at #8 Springboro
Centerville got the top seed?.… Yes, the Elks went undefeated and secured the top seed with a win over Huber Heights Wayne last night.
How did St. Xavier get a #2 seed with two losses, while the #3 and #4 seeds went undefeated?…. Schedule. The Bombers picked up a ton of points by beating Elder, LaSalle, and St. Ignatius. Those teams continued to win, giving the Bombers a ton of secondary points.
Does anyone have a harder road than Dublin Coffman?…. The most underrated team in the state may have the toughest road, if the seeds hold. They take on tricky Hilliard Davidson in the first round, then potential games against Huber Heights Wayne, Centerville, and St. Xavier may await.
It’s the best time of the year to be a high school football fan
Good Luck to all the teams next weekend
