Upper level low pressure, which has had an influence on the region’s weather for just about a week now, will finally move far enough east into the western Atlantic Ocean to lose its stranglehold over our region’s weather. High pressure was located over Ohio this morning, and building east with time. Our region will lie in the zone between these contrasting areas of atmospheric pressure today, and thus, a rather steep pressure gradient will lie over us, allowing for winds to become strong and gusty this afternoon as skies clear out.
Fair weather, and milder conditions are expected for Wednesday as the high pressure area settles south of our region, over the Virginia and North Caroline borders.
The next chance of light shower activity is forecast Thursday through early Friday, as a developing coastal storm lifts from the Gulf Coast states toward the Carolina coast, and merges with a weaker system translating from the upper Great Lakes to the Mid Atlantic coast. These storms look to merge too far south to have a significant impact on the region’s weather. The only risk of showers looks to come from the northern system on Thursday and early Friday. High pressure builds in once again by later on Friday, and into the coming weekend, bringing a return to fair and seasonable weather and temperature profiles.
