Welcome to the latest installment of Vallejo Rising – Our series dedicated to documenting Vallejo’s efforts to reinvigorate its public and private sectors.
San Francisco Bay Area cities face similar challenges: How to grow sustainably in a quickly changing environment. Many cities have embraced ‘smart growth’ principles that affect how these cities look and operate. No cities have all the answers but as Vallejo, with its General Plan update, seeks to make smart growth changes, it is relying not only on its elected city officials and public employees but also its residents to find the inspiration and energy to realize its vision.
Thanks to a new app, sponsored by Propel Vallejo, Vallejo residents can offer input to the Propel Vallejo initiatives, anytime and anywhere. See an attractive example for re-engineering an abandoned shopping mall? Take a picture of it with your mobile device and share it with others via this app. Want to know what your fellow residents are thinking about the latest topic at Open City Hall? Click through with the app and you are there.
It’s a great way to keep connected with all the important processes connected with Propel Vallejo. And to offer your say, in words and pictures.
The app provides a wealth of information about Propel Vallejo, which consists of the General Plan Update, Zoning Code Update, and the Sonoma Boulevard Specific Plan. 2015 ushers in a very robust schedule of community workshops Use the app to keep tabs on the dates for these workshops as well as related meetings, such as the General Plan Working Group sessions.
The promo about the app at the Propel website says that “the app will also soon feature a set of interactive walking tours to encourage community members to visit potential sites for new development and provide written or visual comments.”
Along with the app launch, the city of Vallejo is offering this fun sweetener – a photo contest where submitters are invited to upload images of “what makes Vallejo special to them” Contest winners, selected by a panel of local photographers and community leaders, will receive “Taste of Vallejo” packages with prizes from local businesses, courtesy of the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce.
