On Saturday, Zemir Begic, a 32-year-old Bosnian immigrant living in St. Louis, was brutally beaten to death by teens with hammers. At least two of the suspects, including 17-year-old Robert Mitchell, were identified as black and a third was identified as Hispanic. St. Louis police said investigators do not believe race played a role in the attack, but a video posted Monday by local author Bob McCarty suggests otherwise.
The video was reportedly shot by a resident of the area who expressed disgust with the attack and claimed the attack took place shortly after blacks called for the murder of white people. McCarty did not reveal the identity of the woman who took the video, and said it provides “heretofore-unpublished details” of events leading up to the attack.
“And, of course, it’s a white kid, right after black people running up and down the street saying, ‘Eff the white people, kill the white people,’” she said. “This is what we have.” As we have reported, Ferguson protesters and Michael Brown supporters have called for the murder of white people, suggesting that genocide will somehow bring justice for the shooting death of Michael Brown.
According to witnesses, Begic exchanged words with the suspects as he passed them on the way to his car. Reports say Begic exchanged words with them again after someone allegedly hit or kicked his car. That’s when he was reportedly struck.
“We think it was wrong place, wrong time,” said police spokeswoman Schron Jackson. Twenty-four-year-old Seldin Dzananovic said he was with Begic before the attack and said the hammer-wielding teens attacked him about an hour before targeting Begic.
He was able to fight them off, he said, and suffered only cuts to his hands and neck. “I’m just lucky,” he said. “God is on my side.” He told the Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft the teens said they did it for fun.
Making matters worse, the so-called mainstream media has all but ignored the brutal murder. Twitchy said a number of people wondered why Begic’s murder got little to no coverage given its close proximity to the riots in Ferguson. As of this writing a few stories have emerged, but the coverage dwarfs that which was given to the shooting death of Michael Brown. As of this writing, the Associated Press has devoted a single paragraph to the murder, and never mentions the race of the suspects.
The local Bosnian community protested the attack, but were gone Monday morning. Hoft said he was told by a local business owner the Bosnians “were all at work.” Additionally, no buildings were destroyed or looted. Begic, Hoft said in a tweet, would have celebrated his birthday this week. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help defray funeral expenses. So far, over $24,000 has been raised in that effort.
