You can’t be in Kentucky for the derby? No problem! Atlanta has a few venues where you can watch the derby without leaving the city. And it doesn’t cost anywhere near as much either. Gather the troops and enjoy any of these events on May 2 as you get your fill of food, fun and derby viewing.
Crawfish for Cancer is back for the second time in the city. Held at the Ivy Buckhead 5 p.m. onward, the event aims to raise funds for other charities engaged in cancer research, especially towards multiple myeloma. They will air the derby live starting 6.30 p.m. onward. Your evening will include hundreds of pounds of crawfish, beer, wine and spirits, and live music throughout the day. Signature cocktails will be served including Firefly sweet tea vodka, mint juleps for Derby Day, as well as assorted cocktails and other delights. Tickets are $65 and can be purchased online.

Join Shepherd Center’s Junior Committee as they recreate the magic of Churchill Downs at Derby Day 2015. All proceeds from the event support Shepherd Center’s Recreation Therapy Program. You will enjoy food and beverages, live music, casino and lawn games, live and silent auctions and live broadcasts of the Kentucky Derby. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online.

You could also head to Cook Hall for a viewing party of the 141st Kentucky Derby! From 4 to 8 p.m. guests will enjoy live music by The Jugtime Ragband – a New Orleans fusion band with a prohibition era sound, $5 Four Roses lemongrass mint juleps, and derby-inspired blackboard specials prepared by Chef David Gross. Don’t forget to dress in your derby best – there will be a Big Hat Contest with prizes from Cook Hall. Derby post time is 6:24 p.m., and after the race, head out to the patio for a champagne sabering. There is no cover for this event and three hour validated parking will be provided.

The Alpha Derby Day party will be held at the City Club of Buckhead 3 p.m. onward. The party is open to the public and will feature an indoor/outdoor venue, live band, DJ, food, on site vendors, live stream of the Kentucky Derby, professional photography, amazing door prizes, a silent auction, a “best hat” prize for the ladies, and much more! Tickets are $60 and available online. A handful of educational foundations will be the beneficiaries of this event hosted by Alphas of Atlanta Inc.
