While Chase Elliott officially won the Nationwide Series championship last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway, he was officially crowned champ this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, along with a back-to-back Truck Series champ and a first-time Cup Series winner. In the NHRA, history was made again by one of the series’ top female drivers, while one of its all-time top drivers added to his Top Fuel legacy.
Sprint Cup Series – Kevin Harvick was the victor in the final round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, winning the Ford Ecoboost 400 at Homestead-Miami as well as the Cup Series title. Ryan Newman finished second in the race and in the Chase, while Brad Keselowski, Paul Menard and Jamie McMurray rounded out the top five for the race. Denny Hamlin finished third in Chase points, while Joey Logano finished fourth. Kyle Larson was named Cup Series Rookie of the Year.
Nationwide Series – Matt Kenseth won Saturday’s Ford Ecoboost 300 Nationwide Series race, ahead of Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson. Ryan Blaney and Chris Buescher finished fourth and fifth respectively. Chase Elliott was both the Nationwide Series champ and Rookie of the Year, while the No. 22 for Team Penske took home owner’s points honors.
Camping World Truck Series – Darrell Wallace Jr. capped off an amazing season for Kyle Busch Motorsports with a win in the Ford Ecoboost 200 on Friday night, beating Kyle Larson and Timothy Peters to the checkered. Wallace Jr.’s team owner Kyle Busch finished fourth, followed by Ryan Blaney. Matt Crafton picked up his second straight Camping World Truck Series championship, while the No. 51 KBM team, with Busch and Erik Jones as drivers, picked up the owner’s championship.
NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series – Tony Schumacher brought home his eighth Top Fuel championship in the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, while Erica Enders-Stevens earned her first Pro Stock title, the first by a woman in the class in NHRA history. Matt Hagan (Funny Car) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also picked up their respective titles at Pomona. Enders-Stevens and Hagan also won their events for the weekend, joined by Morgan Lucas in Top Fuel and Hector Arana Jr. in PSM.
