If the polls are correct, the GOP is poised to take total control of the legislative branch after Tuesday mid-term election. In an election year that is supposed to be a GOP wave according to election history (second term president, more Democrats seats are up for reelection in GOP states), but the polls are very close. This is due to the fact that Republicans don’t have a governing message or a direction for the country. Their top three agendas for this country is to repeal Obamacare, cut corporate taxes and to approve the Keystone pipeline.
With a lack of direction and a brewing civil war within the Republican party, Democrats losing the legislative branch might be a blessing in disguise. Because of these factors along with a lack of direction for the country, the GOP with its low approval rating will remind the electorate just why the GOP brand is so toxic. After two years of bad legislating and high school type bickering, the GOP will lose very badly in 2016.
GOP legislative plan
The Republican party is planning to govern but only for the few in this country. Legislation they should be working on is immigration, voting rights and minimum wage just to name a few. Unfortunately, the GOP is planning to repeal parts of Obamacare, approve the Keystone pipeline, change the tax code to lower the corporate tax rate and of course holding hundreds of hearing trying to make the President look weak.
The problem with what they want to do such as repeal Obamacare and the Keystone pipeline are unpopular in this country, especially with the public being enlightened by climate change. These two will be hard because there is a Democrat president, and they don’t have the numbers to stop his veto pen. As for the tax code, the GOP is leaving the door open to expose them for only caring about the top 1%. Just focusing on the corporate taxes and not helping the middle class will be major proof that they only work for the rich. This will be easy to label them in 2016 as only caring about the rich.
Not working on immigration, voting rights or minimum wage will show the GOP doesn’t care about real issues but are only playing politics. Senators like Ted Cruz of Texas will spoil the waters for more radical agendas making the GOP look childish.
Civil War within the GOP
The civil war is brewing within the GOP, but the all out fighting hasn’t begun. With the GOP, having total control of the legislative branch of government will bring out the people who want all or nothing. Ted Cruz who is running for president in 2016 will do something radical to hurt the GOP or do something worst like shutdown the government over something stupid. Ted Cruz was the front man on shutting down the government to stop Obamacare last years, but it didn’t work. In fact, the move only hurt the GOP brand which proved to the country that the GOP is irrational and will do anything for attention.
When stuff hits the fan, the GOP can only blame themselves because they control all of Congress and blaming President Obama will seem unfair. Remember in 2010, they had a three-headed monster to blame Harry Reid, Nancy Peloci and President Obama but now only having the President to blame is lame and the leaders of Congress will be more main steam for the blame. This will be huge for Democrats in 2016.
Democrats will win big in 2016
Democrats will win big because the Republicans will stifle the government, and Obama will not be on the ticket. The person nominated to run from President under the democratic ticket can run against another bad Congress. House and Senate seats up for reelection will favor Democrats because more are in liberal leaning states.
