A wife’s husband, missing for nine years, was found – happily married to another woman and carrying on a marriage while concurrently keeping his bigamist secret under wraps. But this Wisconsin hubby shouldn’t have discounted the sleuthing abilities of his first (and only legal) wife, who used social media to track the two-timer – not because of her unrequited love but because this loser took off and saddled her with his bills.
Writes the New York Post on Nov. 11: “Karen Marx, 48, had been searching for her spouse, Adam, ever since he vanished without an explanation in 2005. But when she finally tracked him down on Facebook, she was shocked to find he was living about 155 miles away in her home state of Wisconsin, and happily married to someone else.”
Adam Marx left in 2005, without warning. The vagabond husband had hit the road before, so Karen assumed he would wander back at some point. But as the years passed, she realized he was gone for good. Perhaps his old school carny ways started to tickle his fancy. Adds the Post:
“Karen, who has three kids from a previous relationship, said Adam was married with two children of his own when she met him at a local carnival in the 1990s, where he worked as a ride operator. But Adam agreed to divorce his first wife for Karen, whom he married a year later.”
Using social media, Karen tracked down Adam’s mother and determined that he was living just a few towns over. She blew him in to police, and Adam was arrested for bigamy, fraud and for making false statement on his marriage license. He now faces three and a half to six years behind bars.
“I just thought, ‘How could he get married again?’” Karen asked. “Am I dead? What did he do with my identity…The first time he left me, it was like somebody reached into my chest and ripped my heart out of me. He basically told me it was all my fault and he couldn’t handle my kids.”
But the opportunist returned, right around the time that Karen was set to receive a huge holiday bonus. Taking him back, the family bought a home in Montana. But as the bills started to pile up, he skedaddled once more.
“He tried kicking my door in. I was pretty afraid of him back then,” she said. “But over the years, I just look at it and think he’s a coward. He left me with just a note in Wisconsin and then he left me in Montana.”
Even now, Karen said that until she is legally divorced, she won’t pursue another relationship. “I consider myself married,” she said, according to People.com. “I thought when you married someone, you married him for life, through sickness and health. Even though he’s married to some other woman, I’m still a married woman, and married women don’t do that.”
