Last year at E3 2014, Microsoft revealed a ton of new games and really put on an incredible show. The Xbox One enjoyed a very successful year in 2014, and Microsoft undoubtedly wants to continue that success with its new games in 2015. One of the exciting, new games that was revealed last year was the new game Scalebound.
While there isn’t a whole lot known about the game, discussion about it has heated up as we have gotten into the new year. Microsoft has some serious confidence in this game and the industry will see much more of it later this year, perhaps at E3 2015.
In a report from GameSpot, Microsoft Studios Creative Director Ken Lobb talked a bit about the upcoming Xbox One exclusive. “Scalebound is very real and very awesome. And I think when people really understand what it is we are building, they’re gonna be shocked. It is definitely big, AAA,” Lobb said.
Lobb went on to compliment the companion dragons that will be in Scalebound, calling them “awesome.” The genre this game will fall under is listed as an Action/Adventure title, but its possible it could fall in the open-world genre, especially when you consider the types of games Microsoft has been publishing lately.
The release date for Scalebound is currently unknown, but when you consider the pattern of releases Microsoft has trailed since debuting the Xbox One, it could be a 2015 launch. Sunset Overdrive was a game that was revealed at E3 2013 but it didn’t launch until October of 2014. If Scalebound is following the same schedule then we can expect to see it this fall, but that is just a theory.
With Platinum Games behind the upcoming game, Scalebound is sure to be a quality title. Director Hideki Kamiya is at the helm of this project and they have major aspirations for what could come of the game. “One of the things that they had asked was…they make these games that are 90-rated; they’re awesome games. But they’ve struggled to sell huge quantities worldwide. And they’re very self-aware. They understand that this is a mixture of good marketing, good PR, but also their understanding of the western audience,” Lobb said.
Microsoft is surely preparing to make some major announcements regarding its upcoming games for 2015. We know games like Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Forza Motorsport 6 are coming to Xbox One, but we could definitely see more than that.
