Young Harris College has a large diversity in students with race, culture, religion, nationality, major, and special interest. To keep up with its students YHC has many opportunities for all of the different diversities on campus. With so much diversity and so many opportunities it is hard for any one student to become involved with all of them, but junior Diane Mouangkham comes pretty close.
Mouangkham is a resident assistant (RA) in the Village at Young Harris. As an RA she is required to assist her residents as much as possible which includes checking on them to ensure they are safe and healthy, periodically making sure school is going well and that they are enjoying college, and even monitoring the resident hall to see that everything is the way it should be to best aid the students. Mouangkham also serves on Young Harris’ Campus Activities Board (CAB) where she, alongside a group of diligent young men and women and the Campus Activities Director, plans multiple activities and events for the campus and all of its students. The events they host are completely free and for the sole purpose of student entertainment. The Competitive Cheerleading team at Young Harris is part of Mouangkham’s experience as well. Young Harris’ competitive cheerleading team works hard from the break of dawn until night to make sure they perform their best at every performance. Mouangkham is also in the following: Phi Alpha Phi (ΦΔ Φ), a sorority that “promotes love and encouragement through the unity of a Christian sisterhood, rooted in a passionate love for God;” Young Harris’ Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and Young Harris’ Peer Mentor Program.
Mouangkham is a biology major at Young Harris with a minor in business and possibly adding education, an interesting selection for sure. She is excited for attending Underground, which is a student lead worship service on campus every Monday and Thursday night. She also enjoys her time at Morning Paws, which is a time set aside by the college to allow the students to have time to stop whatever they are doing and rest and gather in the newly built Rollins Campus Center. If she finds time, she also likes to play in soccer tournaments. When she isn’t on campus Mouangkham attends parades, fairs, and concert to keep herself entertained. Her goal in life is to help others succeed in life and find God.
Mouangkham says her favorite thing about Young Harris is, “the scenery and the willingness of the professors to help [her] get the grades [she] wants.” She also leaves helpful advice to freshman saying it is best “to learn how to manage their time really well, use their resources to succeed to school, and to always spend time with the Lord.”
Doing so much for her school and for others it isn’t surprising that things are going well for Mouangkham. She is recently engaged and recently signed to a modeling agency. Young Harris College is producing world changers. Project: YHC TV would like to thank Diane for all she has done for campus.
